Strategy Overview

The European Stars Equity strategy is a concentrated, benchmark-unconstrained portfolio of 10-20 Europe-based global businesses. These companies are selected through intensive, bottom-up research and must exhibit industry leadership, innovation, and durable competitive advantages.

We believe that only sustainable businesses can generate sustainable returns. With that conviction, the strategy targets 8-10%+ net annual returns over the long term, through disciplined security selection, not index replication.

Clients can access this strategy through separately managed accounts, with the potential for customization. The strategy is led by Christopher Rossbach, formerly of Lansdowne Partners and Perry Capital, and supported by a team of experienced portfolio managers and analysts. Alignment is strong, with the Stern family and firm partners invested across approximately 25% of firm-wide AUM

Investment Criteria

All companies considered for the strategy must pass our quality checklist:

  • Sustainable competitive positioning
  • Strong balance sheets and capital discipline
  • Attractive industry dynamics with long-term tailwinds
  • Experienced and aligned management teams


Companies that meet these standards are modeled internally and reviewed by the investment committee. Valuation targets reflect a five-year return horizon using proprietary, forward-looking assumptions.
Portfolio Construction
  • Holdings: 10-20 companies
  • Universe: ~600 European companies with global operations
  • Turnover: Low, consistent with a long-term holding mindset
  • Exclusions: No hedging of market or currency risk
  • Style: High active share, absolute return focus, benchmark unconstrained
